Israel Strikes Gaza, Netanyahu Talks Tough on Peace Force Veto

Date:

Israeli forces struck the Nuseirat refugee camp, rocking a fragile truce, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu talked tough on his demands for a future peace force. Hamas called the strike a “clear violation” of the Trump-brokered agreement.
The Israeli military claimed the strike, the second in a week, targeted Islamic Jihad militants. The violence overshadowed diplomatic moves, where Netanyahu declared Israel’s right to veto any nation from the international force.
“Israel will determine which forces are unacceptable to us,” Netanyahu said, a stance he claims the US supports. He has already signaled this would mean blocking Turkey.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, visiting Israel, backed the prime minister. He said the force must be “countries that Israel’s comfortable with” and that Hamas will be excluded from power.
The truce is also challenged by a slow exchange of remains. Donald Trump warned Hamas he is “watching very closely” to ensure the return of more Israeli bodies, a process Hamas claims is slowed by destruction.
