Netanyahu Boasts of Surgical Strike on Houthis, But Was It a Decisive Blow?

Date:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is boasting of a surgical strike that killed the Houthi prime minister, but analysts are debating whether it constitutes a decisive blow against the rebel group. Netanyahu labeled the attack “fatal,” but key military leaders remain at large.
The raid on Sanaa was Israel’s response to the Houthis’ continued aggression, including missile attacks and maritime piracy, which they claim is in support of the Palestinian cause in Gaza. The Israeli leader has promised more such strikes are planned.
The operation was an undeniable success in terms of intelligence and execution over a long distance. However, by failing to eliminate the Houthi chief of staff, Israel has left the group’s military brain trust intact, capable of planning future attacks.
The Houthis have promised revenge, signaling their resilience. As analyst Yoel Guzansky noted, while the strike is “remarkable” and will force the leadership to be more cautious, it does not solve the underlying problem of the group’s motivation.
