Motorists in South Africa can anticipate a reduction in fuel prices in November 2026, as announced by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana. This follows a temporary reduction in fuel levies, which is part of a R10 billion relief package aimed at easing consumer costs. The general fuel levy will decrease by R1.50 per litre for petrol and R3 per litre for diesel during the month.
According to data from the Central Energy Fund as of October 27, all four main fuel grades are expected to benefit from the levy cuts. Projections for inland areas indicate that the price of petrol 93 could drop by 23 cents per litre, and petrol 95 by 38 cents per litre. Diesel 0.05% could see a decline of R1.57 per litre, while diesel 0.005% could decrease by R1.65 per litre.
However, these figures are provisional and may be subject to change before the final prices are announced. Key factors influencing South Africa’s fuel costs, such as international oil prices and the rand-to-dollar exchange rate, remain volatile. Currently, Brent crude oil prices have risen to approximately $115 per barrel due to renewed tensions in the Middle East, and the rand is trading around R16.50–R16.65 against the US dollar. Any further increase in oil prices or a weaker rand could offset the expected savings or even lead to higher fuel prices.
The revised fuel prices are scheduled to take effect at midnight on November 3, pending the final monthly adjustments. Both the public and industry stakeholders will be closely monitoring these developments as they unfold.
