ANC Ends Load Shedding in South Africa, Says Ramaphosa

Date:

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has praised the efforts of the African National Congress (ANC) in resolving the country’s persistent electricity load-shedding crisis, highlighting a landmark achievement of over 460 days without national power cuts. This announcement was made during the ANC’s manifesto launch in preparation for the local government elections scheduled for November 4.

Ramaphosa attributed this significant progress to enhanced electricity generation and improved management at Eskom, South Africa’s primary electricity supplier. According to Eskom, the absence of load shedding since May 16, 2025, is a result of better performance at power stations and a reduction in unplanned outages, which have collectively bolstered the country’s electricity reliability.

Despite the national improvements, some regions continue to grapple with load reduction strategies, implemented to safeguard local electricity networks that are prone to overload. These measures have affected certain communities, but Ramaphosa emphasized that ongoing efforts in the provinces of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal are aimed at eventually eliminating load reduction across the nation.

The president’s remarks underscore a significant milestone in South Africa’s energy sector, as the country has struggled with electricity supply issues for years. The ANC’s role in facilitating these improvements is a key message in their campaign for the upcoming elections, showcasing their commitment to infrastructure and service delivery.
