South African Deputy President Mashatile Returns to Duties After Illness Recovery

South Africa’s Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, has resumed his official duties after recovering from an illness, his office announced on October 8. Mashatile returned to work at the start of the week and is set to engage in a full schedule of government and political activities.

His office expressed gratitude for the public’s support during his recovery period, noting that the messages, thoughts, and prayers received were meaningful to Mashatile. The Deputy President also extended his personal thanks to those who reached out during his time of illness.

In his upcoming responsibilities, Mashatile will chair Cabinet committees and participate in proceedings related to the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement. He is also slated to engage with interfaith communities, answer oral questions in the National Council of Provinces, and continue his political engagements.

Details regarding the nature of Mashatile’s illness or the specifics of his treatment were not disclosed by his office.
