Their ALA omega-3 content is among the highest of any plant food, and their fibre aids in cholesterol and hormone management. But whole flaxseeds are nutritionally locked — their hard shell prevents digestion. Grinding them first unlocks their full nutritional potential. One tablespoon in a smoothie or oatmeal several times a week is sufficient.
Basil seeds, or sabja, are perhaps the most underrated gut food on this list. Their rapid expansion in water and their history in traditional digestive medicine make them a fascinating and effective gut-cleansing option. Pairing them with chia seeds in a morning meal creates a fibre-rich, prebiotic-packed start to the day. Together, these three seeds offer a complete, food-based approach to gut cleansing that is simple, affordable, and science-supported.
