President Donald Trump has expressed gratitude to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk for his pledge to distribute shares of SpaceX to children in the United States as part of the Trump Accounts program. Musk announced on social media his intention to give one SpaceX share to every American child next year, highlighting it as the inaugural step in a series of planned contributions.
The Trump Accounts program, launched on July 4, aims to assist families in building long-term savings for their children. As part of the initiative, the U.S. government contributes $1,000 to eligible accounts for children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028. Parents and other contributors can add up to $5,000 annually, with beneficiaries gaining access to the funds when they reach 18 years of age.
Musk’s commitment follows an earlier promise by SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell and her husband to donate shares to over two million children, with a primary focus on those in Central Texas. Trump’s acknowledgment of Musk’s generosity also indicates a thawing in relations between the two, following a previous conflict over the administration’s tax and spending legislation, which had unfolded publicly on social media.
The initiative is expected to provide American children with a tangible stake in the nation’s economic future, as Trump highlighted in his remarks. This proposal aligns with Musk’s broader agenda of supporting educational and economic opportunities for young people across the country.
