Vietnam Pursues Enhanced Trade and Investment Links with EAEU, Egypt

Date:

Vietnam is actively pursuing enhanced trade and investment ties with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Egypt, placing a significant emphasis on improving market access and fostering economic partnerships. At the forefront of these efforts, Vietnamese Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân has advocated for increased utilization of the Vietnam-EAEU Free Trade Agreement, aiming to bolster bilateral trade and investment. In her discussions, she highlighted the potential for revising the agreement to further facilitate commerce and called on the EAEU to address existing trade barriers that impact Vietnamese exports, particularly in the textiles, footwear, and rice sectors.

To pave the way for smoother economic exchanges, both parties have agreed to focus on enhancing trade data coordination and expediting the meetings of their joint committee. Additionally, there is an initiative to broaden the application of electronic certificates of origin to streamline trade processes. EAEU representatives underscored the significant growth in bilateral trade, which has nearly doubled, and pointed out the promising avenues for future expansion in various sectors.

In a separate dialogue held with Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Mohamed Ahmed Eissa, Vice President Xuân emphasized the importance of reinforcing high-level exchanges and deepening economic collaboration between Vietnam and Egypt. She highlighted the potential benefits of negotiating a Vietnam-Egypt free trade agreement, identifying key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, digital transformation, education, and renewable energy as promising areas for expanded cooperation.

These diplomatic engagements took place in Bishkek, where Vietnam participated in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Plus Summit. The summit served as a platform for Hanoi to advance its agenda of strengthening economic and diplomatic relations with regional partners. Through these discussions, Vietnam is eager to solidify its position and leverage new opportunities in the evolving global economic landscape.
