Cape Town is set to undergo a planned 10-hour power outage from 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, to 8 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026. This interruption is part of essential maintenance and upgrades to the city’s electricity infrastructure.
The power outage will affect several areas in the southern parts of the city, including Muizenberg, St James, Clovelly, Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay, Simon’s Town, Sun Valley, Noordhoek, Kommetjie, Ocean View, Masiphumelele, Steenberg, and Westlake. The City of Cape Town has emphasized that these efforts are part of an ongoing program aimed at upgrading aging electricity infrastructure, enhancing network reliability, and strengthening the resilience of the power supply.
Residents have been advised to turn off electrical appliances before the outage to prevent potential damage from power surges when electricity is restored. Additionally, the city has warned residents to treat all electrical installations as live throughout the maintenance period, even if there is an interruption in power supply.
While the scheduled completion time for the maintenance is 8 a.m. on Sunday, there is a possibility that electricity may be restored earlier, depending on the progress of the work.
