Egypt and Qatar Enhance Bilateral Ties in New Cooperation Agreement

Date:

Qatar and Egypt have pledged to enhance their bilateral relations, focusing on strengthening cooperation in economic, investment, and labor sectors among others. This commitment was underscored during a meeting between Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, in Cairo. The discussions took place on the sidelines of the seventh session of the Qatari-Egyptian Joint Higher Committee.

The two nations have seen a significant boost in their economic partnership, with trade between Qatar and Egypt experiencing an 80 percent increase by 2025. Both sides celebrated this robust growth and highlighted further expansion of Qatari investments in Egypt. Notably, this includes a sustainable aviation fuel production project situated in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, marking a substantial step in their collaborative ventures.

In addition to economic ties, the officials discussed enhancing cooperation in labor and consular affairs. They also addressed regional issues, particularly focusing on reducing tensions and fostering stability. A key topic of discussion was the situation in Gaza, where both countries emphasized the importance of continued diplomatic coordination and solutions to regional conflicts.

Furthermore, Qatar and Egypt reiterated the significance of maritime security and ensuring freedom of navigation in critical waterways such as the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea. This focus is aimed at safeguarding international trade routes and contributing to regional stability, which are essential for the broader economic and security interests of both nations.
