Kyiv Under New Assault as Russia Responds to Ukrainian Strikes

Kyiv came under renewed missile and drone attacks from Russia on Sunday, leading to the death of at least one individual and injuring 13 others, according to Ukrainian authorities. This escalation followed Ukraine’s recent targeting of logistics facilities and warehouses within Russian territory. The Ukrainian capital was rocked by explosions shortly after air-raid alerts warned residents about incoming ballistic missiles. The attacks impacted six districts across Kyiv.

Significant damage was reported, including an apartment building in the Solomianskyi district, while fires ignited at a supermarket and a residential property in the Sviatoshynskyi district. Further strikes affected a shopping and entertainment center in the Dniprovskyi district, another apartment building in the Shevchenkivskyi district, and a non-residential facility. In the central Dnipropetrovsk region, another Russian drone attack resulted in one fatality.

On the Russian side, officials confirmed one death in the Kursk region following a Ukrainian strike. This latest surge in attacks comes after Ukrainian drone operations targeted logistical sites in Russia’s Moscow and Tambov regions. Ukrainian sources indicated that these facilities were connected to the supply of components essential for drone production and navigation systems.

In recent months, Ukraine has increased its long-range strikes on Russian soil, focusing on infrastructure and energy facilities. This is seen as a response to Russia’s continuous bombardments since the conflict’s inception in 2022. Amidst these military developments, Ukraine is also dealing with political turbulence at home, following a government reshuffle. Thousands have protested for three consecutive days in multiple cities over the dismissal of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, stirring speculation about potential broader changes within the military leadership.
