South Africa is bracing for severe weather as six active yellow-level warnings have been issued across five provinces, according to the latest alerts. These warnings highlight the potential for damaging winds, disruptive rainfall, and severe thunderstorms that could impact various regions.
Among the most critical alerts are three Yellow Level 4 warnings. One warning pertains to damaging winds and waves along the coastline from Alexander Bay in the Northern Cape to Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape, which could affect ports, harbours, and marine navigation. Another warning is in place for damaging winds across parts of the Northern Cape and Western Cape, where infrastructure, temporary structures, and utilities might face damage. Additionally, the Western Cape is under threat from disruptive rainfall, with flooding expected to impact roads, settlements, and traffic.
In addition to these, three Yellow Level 2 warnings have been issued. The Eastern Cape coast and eastern areas are predicted to experience disruptive rainfall, while severe thunderstorms are anticipated in the western parts of the Free State. These storms may bring strong winds, hail, lightning, and the risk of falling trees. Furthermore, a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging winds covers the western parts of the Western Cape and northern interior areas of the Eastern Cape, potentially affecting temporary structures, settlements, and transport routes.
The South African Weather Service has also cautioned about an extremely high fire danger in central parts of the country, which includes much of KwaZulu-Natal. Residents and authorities are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions to mitigate the risks posed by these weather conditions.
