South Africa Clinches Rugby Series Victory Over New Zealand

Date:

In a decisive performance, South Africa triumphed over New Zealand with a score of 43-28 in Baltimore, clinching the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry Test series 3-1. The Springboks showcased their strength particularly during the second half, pulling away after a closely contested start. Key to their victory was Damian de Allende, who touched down in both halves, alongside tries from Morne van den Berg, Malcolm Marx, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Kurt-Lee Arendse, and Cameron Hanekom.

New Zealand’s efforts to stay in the game were marked by scores from Codie Taylor, Will Jordan, Ethan Blackadder, and Beauden Barrett. However, they struggled to keep pace with South Africa’s relentless intensity, especially in the breakdowns, set-pieces, and aerial duels. A brief resurgence saw the All Blacks close the gap to 29-21, but a remarkable solo effort by Arendse, who dashed from deep within his own territory to score, reasserted South Africa’s dominance.

The match faced an unusual pause of over eight minutes due to a communication glitch involving the officials. Despite this interruption, the Springboks maintained their momentum, ensuring that the outcome remained unaffected.

This victory not only reinforced South Africa’s status as the reigning world champions but also provided them with a psychological edge over their rivals. Meanwhile, New Zealand, while disappointed, will aim to draw on the positive aspects of their performance as they look ahead to their preparations for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
