WhatsApp has expanded its capabilities in the realm of digital payments by launching a new feature that enables users to pay utility bills directly through its messaging app. This development allows users to manage everyday expenses like electricity, gas, and water bills without leaving the platform.
Powered by the Bharat Connect (BBPS) network, the new service offers support for over 22,700 billers across 30 different categories. These categories not only cover essential services such as electricity and water but also extend to FASTag, insurance, credit card payments, and loan repayments.
To utilize this service, users can simply navigate to the WhatsApp home screen, where they can select a bill category and provider. After entering their account details, they can review the bill amount before proceeding with the payment. This seamless process is designed to simplify financial transactions for users.
The platform provides flexibility with multiple payment options, including UPI, debit cards, and credit cards. Additionally, users can track past payments, monitor upcoming bills, and manage multiple accounts associated with the same service provider, making it a comprehensive tool for financial management.
This initiative enhances WhatsApp’s standing as a versatile digital-services platform, enabling users to conduct financial transactions and manage routine tasks all in one place. It underscores a broader trend where messaging platforms increasingly integrate digital financial services, reflecting technology companies’ drive to offer more accessible payment solutions through their existing ecosystems.
