Xi Jinping Urges Strengthened Ties with Egypt on Cairo Visit

Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the importance of strengthening ties and expanding cooperation with Egypt during his visit to Cairo, underscoring the enduring relationship between the two nations. As China and Egypt celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations, Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his wife, marking the beginning of a significant visit.

In a message released prior to his arrival, Xi highlighted the robust relationship between the two countries despite shifts in the global landscape. He advocated for efforts to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Egypt and explore new avenues for collaboration. Xi emphasized the alignment of national development goals, suggesting both nations should work together to synchronize their strategies, particularly under the Belt and Road Initiative, with a focus on projects yielding long-term economic benefits.

Xi proposed expanding cooperation in several sectors, including education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, and archaeology. He noted that stronger exchanges in these areas would enhance mutual understanding and fortify the bonds between their peoples. The Chinese president also acknowledged Egypt’s pivotal role as a partner in fostering cooperation between China and Arab nations, as well as China and Africa, highlighting their shared interests and goals as part of the Global South.

He called for increased coordination on international matters, advocating for enhanced multilateral cooperation and joint efforts to promote global peace and stability. Xi expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Egypt in building on their seven decades of diplomatic ties, infusing new momentum into their comprehensive strategic partnership. The visit is anticipated to bolster political and economic relations between Beijing and Cairo, paving the way for novel opportunities in trade, infrastructure, technology, and other sectors.
