A globally recognized gastroenterologist, with training from India’s prestigious AIIMS as well as Harvard and Stanford, has issued a global warning about the foods driving the fatty liver pandemic. He has identified three categories of food that are universally detrimental. The first is sugary beverages. He strongly cautions that sodas and juices, popular worldwide, are like “liquid poison” for the liver, causing fat buildup and insulin resistance due to their high fructose content. The second is deep-fried foods, a common feature in many global cuisines. He warns that the unhealthy fats used in deep frying lead directly to fat deposition and inflammation in the liver, increasing the risk of chronic disease. The third is ultra-processed foods, a growing staple in diets around the world. He points to items like instant noodles, chips, and candies as being particularly harmful due to their high concentration of unhealthy fats, sugars, and artificial additives. This doctor’s international perspective highlights that the threat of these foods to liver health is a global problem requiring a global response.
