South Africa to Support Exporters Hit by New US Tariffs

Date:

The South African government will roll out a support package for companies affected by the newly imposed 30% US tariffs on local exports. The tariff will take effect within a week after August 1.
The package will include several measures aimed at assisting impacted companies, producers, and workers. Specific details are expected to be announced soon. Government channels for negotiations with the US remain open, and South Africa is prepared to engage if invited.
Certain exceptions to the tariffs, such as pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, copper, and energy products, will still apply under previous US policy. However, many other sectors are expected to be hit hard.
To safeguard national economic interests, the government is also pushing a diversification strategy to reduce reliance on single markets. Efforts are underway to help exporters identify alternative global markets, in partnership with industry associations and export councils.
An export support desk is being set up to provide real-time updates and advisory services to affected businesses. Further information will be made available online through official government channels.
