Suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu will appear before Parliament’s ad hoc committee on Thursday to respond to allegations of corruption and interference within the criminal justice system.
Committee chairperson Soviet Lekganyane confirmed that Mchunu will testify over two days, providing his version of events and addressing questions from Members of Parliament. His appearance follows testimony from senior police officials, including KwaZulu-Natal commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who accused Mchunu of interfering in investigations and disbanding the political killings task team, actions allegedly beyond his authority.
Mchunu, who was suspended by President Cyril Ramaphosa, has denied all allegations, calling them “baseless” and asserting his commitment to transparency and due process. He expressed confidence ahead of the hearing, saying he welcomes the opportunity to clear his name before the committee.
The parliamentary session will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, marking a key moment in the inquiry into alleged misconduct within South Africa’s police leadership.
